Quote of the month:
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth be moved, and though the mountains be toppled into the depths of the sea; Though its waters rage and foam, and though the mountains tremble at its tumult. The Lord of Hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold. -Psalm 46

Economic Development Strategy

Your Featured Economic Ideas:

West Virginia has its first solar-powered elementary school! Washington Lands Elementary in Marshall County gets some of its energy from solar panels, and students and staff can monitor the sun's production as part of their learning experience. (Charleston Gazette, May 16) This is a small step forward. Does anyone in state government recognize this as an economic opportunity? How about manufacturing solar panels? Could the state that once led the nation in coal production now lead it in solar production? Of course it could, if only we refocus our resources and ideas.

Grow West Virginia's Economy

In the past, coal ruled West Virginia. But now King Coal is dying. We can sit around and moan about the loss of jobs and taxes. Or we can realize we have an unprecedented opportunity to diversify and strengthen our economy. We can dictate our own destiny.

I want West Virginia to become a haven for small business. And I want to see West Virginians use their creativity to come up with a new economy.

Send in your ideas for diversitying our economy and supporting small business. I'll highlight the most interesting ones as a Featured Economic Idea.
