Comments on Nader from Chuck WyrostokGreetings fellow sufferers of the bush/cheney regime...... Many of you know I've been involved with West Virginia's only third party, the Mountain Party since its inception in 2000. Well, we've got our convention coming up May 1st at Jacksons Mill and what goes on that day in Weston could very well determine who gets into the White House in November. This is how it goes...I'll try to be brief. Ralph Nader wants to be on the Mountain Party (MP) ballot for President in November. Since MP is an independent progressive political party, it could just nominate Ralph at the convention and put him on the ballot statewide. His only alternative is to mount a signature petition drive, a huge effort (nearly 14,000 valid signatures needed, so really they would have to get 18-20,000 to guarantee that). It looks to me like a group of MP members will try to put Ralph on our ballot on May lst. I am strongly opposed to Ralph running at all this time because I feel like my country is at stake, to put it bluntly. If he runs and ends up the spoiler this time, his legacy will be decades of Supreme Court judges like Scalia and Thomas and the repeal of his own wonderful accomplishments. Not to mention at least four more years (probably four more wars) from the bush/cheney neo-cons. If you think West Virginia's 5 electoral votes aren't crucial, picture Gore in the White House right now. So, as far-fetched as this may seem, what action we take in Weston on May Day might change history. I love Ralph. I just don't understand why he's doing this. Denise Giardina, whose 2000 candidacy for governor put the Mountain Party on the map, strongly opposes the Nader effort (see her letter below). If you agree, here's what needs to happen. The by-laws of MP say that voting delegates at our convention will come from Regional Committees representing each of the state's senatorial districts (17 in all). At least 4 from each district can vote on nominations. At this moment, there are Regional Committees forming up across the whole state. IF you are interested in stopping Nader in Weston on May 1st, please read on.... Many of you are in crucial positions with this because you're spread all over our state in different state senatorial districts. This will take some time... making calls, having meetings by phone or emails, shelling out some money ($25 registration fee at the convention)... and blowing the first Saturday in May at Jacksons Mill with a really good bunch of people. You and your committee members, if not already Mountain Party members, could fill out new voter registration forms the morning of the convention, changing your party affiliation to MP. Or I'll mail you a form if you want to do it earlier (wyro@appalight.com). Please note that county clerks are NOT accepting any voter registrations between Apr. 22 and the May 11 primary. PLEASE consider doing this. Yours truly and other like-minded MP members are really depending on some sacrifice out there to make this happen. I hate going against Nader. But this election could determine whether America will be the world's bully or the world's benefactor... and getting rid of the vicious regime in our White House is the only target I can see. Viv Stockman is working with me on this. She is my idol. She is also the alternate contact on this when responding (viv@spectrumz.com). Here is a briefing from Frank Young of Ripley, MP's treasurer and parliamentarian extraordinaire. Its inclusion is for informational purposes only and in no way implies Frank's endorsement of the above opinions. Feel free to pass this on to folks who might want to do this. Feedback, ideas, energy all appreciated. Peace in our Lifetimes, Chuck Wyrostok 927-2978 wyro@appalight.com Alternate contact: Vivian Stockman viv@spectrumz.com | |
