Comments on Nader from Don Alexander

April 30, 2004

I just wanted to pass along a metaphor offered by Arianna Huffington when Jon Stewart asked her why she was supporting Kerry rather than someone like Ralph Nader whose ideals are closer to hers (and ours).

She said that Nader is like remodeling, but that you can't remodel while the house is on fire. You have to put the fire out first.

As much as I like most of what Ralph Nader has done over the years, he has no chance of actually being elected president. There is no evidence that the Bush regime pays any attention to anyone other than their own self centered ideologues, so support for Nader will do nothing to temper Bush administration policies if the Bush gang is re-selected.

Kerry can win the election, and while Kerry is far from the perfect candidate, Kerry is much closer to Mt Party values than the Bush regime. Kerry represents our only chance of putting out the fire before the house of US burns to the ground.

Kerry has also shown that he is capable of changing his mind when presented with new facts and evidence (he served honorably in Vietnam, but spoke out against the war when he learned the ugly truths about the lies and horrors of that war). I doubt Kerry would dismiss 10 million plus protestors as a focus group.

Kerry also seems able to understand concepts that are not limited to simplistic black and white, good vs evil logic. Unlike Bush, he can even make a coherent sentence.
