Mt. Party Regional Committees Very Important

Mountain Party organization by Regional Committees is very important. This is the basis of “one person, one vote” democracy.

Under the Mountain Party by-laws, Delegates to the state Mt. Party convention are to be apportioned by regions. Each Regional Committee is allowed a regional Chairman, two delegates, and an alternate Delegate to be seated at the Convention, as well as a representative to the State Executive Committee.

A Regional Committee needs to be formed in each State Senatorial District. There are 17 senatorial districts around West Virginia; so ideally we would have 17 Mt. party Regional committees.

So we are asking that Mt. Party folks within the Senatorial Districts try to organize and develop your Regional Committees prior to the May 1st convention. We will try to provide time, perhaps 15 to 30 minutes, early in the day of the convention, for regional committees to caucus and further designate voting Delegates. But this will be more orderly if you can meet among yourselves prior to the convention. The Regional Committee Delegates, along with the state executive Committee, are the core constituents of the Mountain Party and its convention.

So please, before the convention, try to develop some Mt. Party Regional Committee meetings in your Senatorial District. These meetings may be held in person, or by conference phone calls, or however you can assemble and talk. This is necessary so that when you come to the convention you can have some idea of how your Region may want to organize and designate Delegates.

If you are unable to network with others in your Region or District, especially as in the case of rural districts, you may still come to the convention. But having met and networked beforehand will make the Regional caucus meetings at the convention go smoother.

So that you can know which Senatorial District Regional Committee you live in, click on the following internet site for further information: http://www.legis.state.wv.us/legishp.html (note: computers with dial-up internet service, this will load slowly).

Too, contacting the potential Mt. party candidates for public office in your District Regions will let them know who you are. And, of course, they should be interested in helping to organize the District regions as a part of organizing their own campaigns. The people we currently know of who are interested in being Mountain Party candidates include:
